Plugging into the Music that Matters

Alt-J reveal album details and new song ‘3WW’

With festival appearances booked all over the world this summer, Alt-J now confirm there’ll be new music to look forward to when they hit the road this summer.

Alt-J

This morning, the Leeds band unveiled a new song, ‘3WW‘, taken from what’ll be their third album, Relaxer.

Alt-J teased that new music was on the way last week with a cryptic video which included a snippet of ‘3WW‘. Titled “00110011 01110111 01110111”, fans dug around on the internet and it led them to a Japanese iTunes page with an album listing for Relaxer with a June 9th release date to go with it.

As it turns out, the numbers from the title of the teaser video, is binary for “3W”, which we now know is the title to the lead single from the band’s next record.

What starts off with a soft beat and acoustic guitar instrumental for the first minute and a half, you’d be forgiven if you mistook ‘3WW‘ for a Nick Drake or José Gonzalez song. The song gradually increases its intensity with the addition of crackling white-noise before fading out before really mounting to anything too heavy. The song also features Wolf Alice front-woman, Ellie Roswell, sharing vocal duties with Joe Newman. Tell us what you think of Alt-J’s first single since 2015 by listening to it below and then tweet us by following @JacksMusicMedia.
