On The Radar: LeWis
Emerging from Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, LeWis, tugs heartstrings with his debut, ‘Mathilda’.

Belgium native LeWis, is another fresh talent out of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). An institute that has produced plenty of fine talents including Francis and Mary Miller, now add LeWis to their portfolio.
Louis De Roo is currently studying at LIPA and has turned heads with his songs where he wears his heart on his sleeve. Stage name LeWis, he’s already garnered attention from the likes of BBC Radio 2 and Q Music. The singer-songwriter first entered the spotlight when he made an appearance on The Voice.
Drawing comparison to the likes of Ben Howard and Passenger, LeWis’s impassioned lyrics are matched by the spellbinding melodies that accompany it. The singer-songwriter recently released his debut single ‘Mathilda’, along with a video that’ll tug on the heartstrings.
‘Mathilda’ is a passionate love song, dealing with the ups and downs of a relationship. He implores about the joys when things are going well between a couple. Yet adding a harrowing sentiment with lines like “a king without a queen”, during the difficult times.
Backed with a calming acoustic guitar and an underlying beat, it eventually peaks with a building guitar line that’d be up there with the finger work of Ben Howard. The song culminates with one more passionate rendition of the chorus.
It’s a track that’ll draw you in, beautifully crafted, it’s a fine debut from the Belgian. Watch the video for ‘Mathilda’ below.
‘Mathilda’ was produced by Tony Draper, who in the past has worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Blossoms and Robbie Williams.
